Dead Space is more 'scary' than any of them, to me, full stop. I will say despite being a massive Resident Evil fan, who's played nearly all of them and who grew up playing PSX RE games when I was like 12 years old at most. It's just creepy to me, and not a lot of things creep me out as far as horror media goes.

Knowing what the marker is doing to people with the madness, paranoia and suicides(to create dead bodies for transformation), how the necromorphs come into existence via DNA recombination, etc. For me, I imagine it's more creepy because I'm super interested in the lore of Dead Space and I've invested into it. But it's different for different people, all about perspective. It's more tension and general creepiness.

Does it truly scare me? No, it's a video game. It's not so much scary as it is tense and it definitely makes my heart-rate go up while playing it at times. In my opinion it is by far the scariest game of all time. The DLC is somehow even more frightening.

I went in thinking it was overblown and I was scared out of my mind from the first two or three minutes of the game until the very end. This is coming from someone who was similarly not frightened at all by Dead Space 1. It’s like somebody reached into a nightmare and cast it directly to your Xbox. The design of the game is masterful I had the same reservations about the game being a “walking simulator” but you’ll forget about it in seconds. Anyone who says it “wasn’t scary” is either a psychopath or didn’t actually play the game or is projecting. I’ve played it in a room full of people and it’s still just as frightening. Outlast is the only horror game I have ever played that actually frightened the shit out of me to the point that I was unable to function normally afterwards.
